Scala Kids Casting, the schools agency has a reputation nation-wide for providing first class, well disciplined children for film and TV. Our children regularly appear in feature films, TV programmes and commercials, with several becoming regular members of some of the country's top TV shows.

Film and TV

Red Riding Trilogy: ITV Drama

Scala had two young actresses in this award winning 3 parter for Revolution Film starring Sean Bean, Martin Shaw and Mark Addy. Amber Freeman played Claire Kemplay in "1974" for director Julian Jarrold. Tamsin Mitchell was Hazel Atkins in "1983" directed by Anand Tucker.

These were debut roles for both girls.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Feature Film  - Universal Studios

It’s the end of an era for Matthew Lewis who landed the role of Neville Longbottom as an 11 year old Scala Kid. Matthew was delighted to finally play Neville as a hero after years of playing the bumbling young wizard.

Marchlands: ITV Drama

Emmerdale

Noah Tate: 9 year old Jack Downham plays Charity’s cheeky little monkey Noah. He hopes his fellow actors will all get Nintendos for Christmas so he can and beat them all between takes.

11 Year old Chloe Papaiacovou appears in the current McDonalds “weather” TV commercial.

Jack Downham spent a few days in Berlin filming this commercial for Whiskas— “I Love my Cat” for Soup Film.

Father and Son: ITV Drama

Imani McLaren filmed in Dublin for the four part thriller “Father and Son” for ITV Drama. Starring Dougray Scott (Desperate Housewives) and directed by Brian Kirk (The Tudors). Imani plays the daughter of Sophie Okonedo. They liked Imani’s name so much—they changed her characters name from Maya to Imani for the series.

Joe Switalski and Tom Weston played young students in a series of Iceland idents for "I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here”.

Gaby Thomas: Annelise Manojlovic – now 10 has been in the soap since birth playing vicar Ashley's daughter Gaby. A talented dancer, Annelise likes teaching the cast how to do the splits—ow!

South Riding: BBC

We had a whole Scala team working on the period drama “South Riding” over last summer for director Diarmuid Lawrence. Several of our girls had small roles and our PA Kids became “Mrs Hubbard’s Dance Academy”.

Our 11 – 16 year olds played the very demure schoolgirls. All great fun.

The Forgotten Fallen: BBC

9 year old Jamie Spencer appeared in Hardy Pictures “The Forgotten Fallen” - Jamie plays “Sam” in the period drama about the Spanish flu epidemic.

Curio: Feature Film 

Sydney Wade took a lead role in “Curio” a spine tingling thriller.

She impressed the whole crew with her faultless American accent,

- not bad for a Leeds kid.

Little Crackers: Sky

Here’s Briony Farr in Sky One’s 2010 Christmas special “Little Crackers”. Briony played the hapless Eunice in Victoria Wood’s “Giddy Kipper”

Our Soap Kids

Seven year old Daisy Campbell plays Samson Dingles nemesis Amelia, - a new regular to the soap. Amelia, brother Shaun, and Mum Ali move to the village from their Hotten estate to start a new life - expect fireworks.

10 year old Katy Gannon completed filming “Mam” for Vigo Film. Directed by Hugo Speer and starring Nerys Hughes and Paul Barber. Katie plays the part of Lauren in this film shot on location in Sheffield.

Mam: Short Film

Jack Downham enjoyed filming the recent “Robin Hood” blockbuster starring Russell Crowe and directed by Ridley Scott. Jack plays young Robin in flashback scenes and spent an exciting few days on the fabulous set.

Robin Hood: Feature Film  - Universal Studios

This short film was directed by Billy Prince for Falconer Film with Daniel Leach (13) as “Tom”, Lucy Hird (15) as “Emily”, Jamie Spencer (9) as “Michael” and Francesca Parker (11) as “Grace”.

Waterloo Road: BBC

9 year old Finton Flynn appeared as “Russ” - the son of exotic dancer Cheryl. Finton enjoyed working with such a distinguished cast.

SYDNEY WADE

16 year old Nadine Mulkerrin was seen  as “Billie” - a fourteen year old schoolgirl mum in this BBC drama by Shed Productions. She also had a fantastic few weeks playing the lead role Sam in a terrifying slasher movie “Inbred”.

Sydney Wade and Millie Archer worked together in this ITV drama. The girls thoroughly enjoyed playing “friends” Alice and Amy in this creepy tale.

Doctor Who: BBC

Sydney also had an exciting time with the Time Lord filming scenes for “The Impossible Astronaut” and “Day of the Moon”. Sydney played regenerated time-kid Melody Pond in series 6.

Lucky Sydney Wade got to work with Jude Law and Rachel Weisz when she played their daughter “Ellie” in Fernando Meirelles thriller “360” written by Peter Morgan. The movie, based on “La Ronde” also stars Anthony Hopkins.

360: Feature Film 

Sydney Wade appeared in the last episode of the BAFTA nominated drama starring Benedict Cumberbatch. She plays Claudie Bruhl - daughter of the US ambassador kidnapped from an exclusive boarding school.

This series also stars ex Scalakid Vinette Robinson as police sergeant Sally Donovan

Sydney will also soon be recording “Journey to Starlight Mountain” for BBC Radio.

Sherlock - The Reichenbach Fall: BBC

Appropriate Adult: ITV Drama

Sophie Downham was Jade Leach - daughter of the social worker attached to the Fred and Rosemary West case in the controversial TV drama “Appropriate Adult” screened last autumn.

The Other Child: Feature Film

18 year old Tom Weston spent last summer filming “The Other Child” for Teamworx Film. Tom plays Chad Becket, an idealistic and patriotic young farm lad who falls in love with Fiona - a young evacuee. Set in 1941 the drama follows Chad and Fiona through the war years in a series of flashbacks.

Sirens: Channel 4

Luke Causebrook played wimpy kid “Josh” in this new comedy drama for Channel 4 about a young ambulance team. Filmed by Daybreak Pictures in Leeds, several Scalakids had walk on roles. Luke was also in the Warwick Castle TV and cinema commercial.

Unforgiven: ITV Drama

Sophie was also seen  in the demanding role of Katy Slater, alongside Suranne Jones in Red Productions riveting 3 parter from the Sally Wainwright stable. “Unforgiven” was nominated as the year’s Best Drama.

Millie Chadwick had a magical day filming this TV ad for the “Can we go” campaign.

McDonalds “Weather”

Littlewoods “Muvva”

7 year old Keldon Copeland was “Spiderboy “in the recent TV campaign for Littlewoods and was thrilled to be “flown in” for his TV debut.

Whiskas- “I Love my Cat”

Les Miserables

Sophie spent a year playing “Young Cosette" in the 25th Anniversary tour of this remarkable musical. Sophie toured major venues throughout the UK and also was lucky enough to perform in Paris and The Barbican.

Madam Butterfly - Opera North

2 tiny Scalakids will share the role of “Trouble” in Opera North’s fantastic production  which will run for two seasons. Millie Chadwick and Pamela Tobin are thrilled to be working with director Tim Albery.

When the Lights Went Out: Feature Film 

13 year old Tasha Conner was plucked from over 1,000 girls who auditioned for the part of Sally in yet another teen horror movie. Plus she had the honour of working with top photographer “Rankin” for the films publicity shots. Fellow Scalakid Cajun Sanderson plays her mate Paula. We reckon both girls will be sleeping with the lights on for a while yet.

Oliver! &

South Pacific - Manchester Palace Theatre

Finton Flynn will again play the part of Jerome, son of Emile de Bec when this Tony Award winning production comes to Manchester in March - straight after appearing at the same theatre in Oliver!

Well done to all twelve Scalakids who played the orphans in “Annie” at the West Yorkshire Playhouse.

Sophie Downham played Annie and we had 11 girls cast as Orphans - Great result!

 

 

Norma – Opera North

Charlotte Thornton will be seen as “Gladys” (there’s a name that will stick) in Bellini’s “Norma” and 7 year old Charlie Myers will also appear. Directed by Christopher Alden this opera is set in Gaul under the Roman occupation.
